The Red Cliffs Battle
Cao Cao transported his armies by thousands of wooden battleships from the northern part, but when they arrived Red Cliffs(ChiBi City), they had seasick and felt exhausted. So he came up with an idea, the idea was to tie his thousands of ships together, so the ships would be more stable and flat on the surface of water. The southern leaders found out that and they came out a strategy to beat Cao Cao, the strategy was one of the generals wrote a letter saying that he wanted to change sides and surrender to Cao Cao and then he sent his ships across to join Cao Cao. It was just a trick, the ships were filled in with kindling and oil instead of soldiers. When the fire ships approached the enemy, the fire ships would be set on fire and wind would carry them directly into Cao Cao's ships, when the fire ships get close enough to Cao’s navy, Cao’s navy will burn down entirely because of chain reaction. Many soldiers were burned or drowned as they jumped from the ships, the southern soldiers attacked the confused northern soldiers. Cao Cao lost many soldiers, he became anxious about whether should he let his army fight with the Southern allied. His armies were exhausted and injured. Cao knew he would lose if he fought with the southern allied force, so he surrendered and went back to north with his injured army. Works Cited Nelson Ken. How did this battle impact The Han Dynasty and modern culture
After the battle, Cao Cao’s plan of uniting the country was failed. Other warlords got time to expand their territory and power when Cao Cao went back to north “Cao Cao maintained control of the north and established the Kingdom of Wei. In the south, Liu Bei founded the Kingdom of Shu and Sun Quan founded the Kingdom of Wu”(Nelson, Ken 2015). This battle was the most famous battle in ancient Chinese history, because Sun Quan and Liu Bei they beat the powerful enemy together,“It is also a classic battle in Chinese history famous for the fewer and weaker defeating the more and stronger.”(Annie 2015)Three Kingdoms period had begun after this battle. The story of southern allied force beat Cao Cao’s navy was wrote into novels, videogames and textbooks. Because of Cao’s arrogant and he lost the battle, it was a great lesson to people. Cao Cao's idea was to beat other powerful warlords and unite them, but his idea was rebuilt at the Battle of Red Cliffs in 208 / 209, when he transported his army to the southern part of the country, his army was defeated by the allied forces of Sun Quan and Liu Bei. “Sun Quan allied with Liu Bei and faced Cao Cao’s naval force in 208CE at the Battle Of Chibi. This was a significant defeat for Cao Cao which ensured the continued disunity of China during the Three Kingdoms.” (PediaPress 2015). The allied forces were established by Sun Quan and Liu Bei with the help of a famous military strategist Zhuge Liang. He was an extremely important person in this battle because he was an intelligent guy and he had amazing strategies, They had with only around 50,000 soldiers to against Cao Cao but they beat Cao by good strategies.
